After a month of hard training and carrying the lofty goal of a 14th consecutive IAC title, the St. Albans cross-country team had its first taste of competitive racing Saturday at the popular Lake Braddock Relays. The unique meet included twenty-four schools and featured many of the top private and public programs in the area. Each school was allowed two team entries in the main relay event, which was run under the lights. The St. Albans team of seniors Sebi Hume, Liam Quinn, William Strong and Laszlo Wolfe, joined by junior Charlie Palmore, took first overall in a time of 38:55, 1:05 ahead of second-place St. John’s, who STA will see again at the DC State Championships in November if not sooner. The Bulldog team led by senior Sammy Miller along with junior William Cantrell and sophomores Declan Hamilton, Rafi Hume and Thomas Power finished seventh out of 37 total entries with a time of 41:31.
The Bulldogs have a split schedule this upcoming weekend with some runners competing in a dual meet against Georgetown Day School Friday at the Maryland Agricultural Farm Park and others heading out to Leesburg Saturday for the prestigious Oatlands Invitational. The dual meet with GDS starts at 5pm Friday and the Oatlands races start at 9am Saturday.
