Arts

Theater

The Theater Department introduces students to the art of the theater as a means of individual and collaborative expression. Faculty seek to inspire greater empathy and broaden each student’s perspective through the exploration of characters and concepts that expand their horizons and challenge their preconceptions.

Theater Overview

Middle Schoolers practice being both actors and designers in coed theater classes and have the opportunity to participate with National Cathedral School students in the annual play and musical. In Upper School courses, students focus on theatrical production or acting. Production electives start with “hands on” craft oriented work in scenery, lighting, sound, and costumes that supports our department productions. Acting electives focus on character development. Students are encouraged to relate to their characters and draw from personal experiences to give ever stronger performances. The Upper School puts on a play, a musical, and student-directed one-act plays each year.

Located in Washington D.C., St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
