Visual Arts Summer Fellows Reception Highlights Artistic Creations
Exploration is an essential element in the visual arts. Thanks to the generous support of the Parents' Association Visual Arts Fellowship, and the creativity and dedication of its recipients, several STA students were able to explore and deepen their artistic interests this past summer. Last week in Marriott Hall, the Fellows were able to proudly display the fruits of their labor to a crowd of parents, faculty, and friends at the PA Visual Arts Fellowship Exhibition. The event was kicked off with opening remarks from Headmaster Robinson and Visual Arts Department Chair David Sturtevant '92, introducing the Summer Fellows and complimenting their varied and exemplary creations. Each Fellow then came forward to describe their unique process and media, completed works, and learning experiences.
"First I'd like to start off by saying thank you to the Parents' Association for this opportunity..." was a common phrase, as each student expressed a shared gratitude for the chance to explore their own artistic interests. The summaries of their artistic summer journeys included a variety of learning environments, from studying car design and auto history in Detroit, to working on mastering their camera's aperture taking photos in the Galapagos, to working on their glassblowing techniques with master glass blowers. Parents and guests then toured the works displayed throughout the space as students answered questions and gave context to their pieces.
