Scenes from a Festival of Lessons & Carols

The Close community gathered in Washington National Cathedral for a Festival of Lessons and Carols on Thursday, December 12.

“Let us look forward to the yearly remembrance of [Jesus’] birth with hymns and songs of praise,” said the Right Rev. Mariann Budde, bishop of Washington, in her welcoming prayer. “But first, let us pray for the needs of his whole world.”

The dean of the Cathedral and students, faculty, staff, chaplains, and administrators from St. Albans and the National Cathedral School then offered prayers and scripture readings recounting the Christmas story, interspersed with artistic offerings by the choruses, orchestras, and dancers from all grades at both schools
Enjoy a highlights reel, photos from the service, two favorite carols (“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” sung by the NCS-STA Upper School Chorale, and “Once in Royal David’s City,” sung by the NCS-STA Madrigal Singers), and footage of the entire service.

Located in Washington D.C., St. Albans School is a private, all boys day and boarding school. For more than a century, St. Albans has offered a distinctive educational experience for young men in grades 4 through 12. While our students reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.
