Assemblies Celebrate and Educate During Hispanic Heritage Month
Lower School and Upper School assemblies have offered students insights and new perspectives of different aspects of Hispanic culture and history during Hispanic Heritage Month. National Hispanic Heritage Month is traditionally observed from September 15 to October 15, and recognizes the contributions and influences of Hispanic culture to the U.S. and globally.
Lower School was visited by a traditional Bolivian dance group that tours and competes in exhibitions across the country. The group shared clips of their performances, explained the various costume elements, instruments, and traditions in Bolivian dance, and even invited a few brave students to join in a performance on stage.
The Upper School assembly featured author and documentarian Andrea Yaryura Clark. Clark is the author of the the recent book On a Night of a Thousand Stars, set in the time of Argentina’s tumultuous

“Dirty War” in the 1970's. Clark shared her own story of growing up in Argentina during civil unrest, before fleeing with her family for safety. Clark engaged the student audience with videos of Leo Messi, World Cup history, and beautiful scenery of her home country, before sharing her documentary interviews on her parents' and her generations' struggle for freedom, safety, and self-expression in Argentina-from the 70's to the present.
