Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival, or “Moon Festival,” originated in China more than 3,000 years ago as a harvest festival when the moon is at its fullest. The festival occurs each year in the eighth month of the lunar calendar, a full moon night, which occurred on Tuesday, September 21, this year. Those who celebrate this festival share moon cakes, a traditional Chinese pastry, as gifts, and families enjoy dinner together, admire the moon, and make colorful lanterns as symbols of reunion, happiness, and good luck. Mrs. Weeks’ coordinate Middle and Upper School Chinese classes celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival by making moon cakes, creating artwork, and reciting Tang poetry together.
