A Message from Headmaster Robinson

Dear St. Albans Community,

We have followed the disturbing news of this week’s Atlanta-area attacks with heavy hearts and the deepest of sympathies for the victims and their families. While these attacks are an affront to our common humanity, we recognize that these tragic events have a particular impact on Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders within and beyond St. Albans, for whom a difficult year, filled with animus and misinformation about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, has now taken on an even more troubling aspect.

The invocation I read to our seniors at our traditional Commencement Ceremony compels our boys to “seek excellence in all that they do and to build a world in which people everywhere may know justice, compassion, and peace.” Guided by these principles, we stand in solidarity and empathy with the victims, their families, and the Asian-American community, recognizing that this week's tragic events—and the increase in discrimination against Asian Americans since the pandemic began—are part of a broader history of anti-Asian discrimination that we have a moral responsibility to acknowledge. Let us recommit to the sacred work, grounded in our school’s mission, of building a world in which people everywhere may know justice, compassion, and peace.

Sincerely,

Jason Robinson
Headmaster
