With spring sports in full swing, it’s time to check in on how our spring teams are competing this year.
Notable Upcoming Home Matchups:
Track & Field: Home Meet, Saturday, 4/13, beginning 8:00 am
Tennis: vs. Episcopal, Tuesday 4/16, 4:15 pm
Baseball: vs. Georgetown Prep, Thursday 4/18, 4:30 pm
Lacrosse: vs. Georgetown Prep, Friday 4/19, 4:30 pm
Baseball:
Baseball Bulldogs are hot at the moment, winning 6 straight including three IAC matchups on top of a mercy-rule victory over the always strong Lake Braddock. With an 11-7 record (8-2 outside the state of Florida), the Dogs have to take care of business for the rest of this week ahead of what could be a first place showdown versus Georgetown Prep next week.
The pitching remains strong, the defense steady, but recently the bats have come alive, as the dogs have averaged just over 10 runs on their 6-game win streak.
Crew:
The STA crew is off to a solid start this spring anchored by an excellent training trip in Oak Ridge, TN. While there, the Bulldogs raced Kent School (CT), along with some club programs from the midwest. The varsity 8 came in 2nd behind Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. Racing will continue this weekend at St. Andrew’s School in Delaware.
Lacrosse:
It’s an exciting time for St. Albans lacrosse. With a current record of 6-7, the lacrosse team has been working hard to improve each day and for the first time this season, they have a fully healthy roster!
Only 4 IAC games and 1 non-conference game are left before the IAC Tournament. The Bulldogs are eagerly anticipating their game at Bullis on Friday, which will be played under the lights and is set to start at 7 pm. With the team at full strength for the first time this season, they are looking forward to a great game! Per Coach Heeter, “Go Dogs, Roll Beef.”
Golf:
Highlighted by a spring break trip to Southern Pines, NC, where they played 7 rounds in 5 days, the young golf team has been hard at work growing and improving as a group. With consistent disruption to the season due to inclement weather, the team has shown great resilience as they have fought hard through the early season.
With the IAC and DCSAA championships around the corner, the team looks to continue to polish their strokes as they attempt to repeat last year’s championship performances.
Tennis:
St. Albans returns a talented team that has been repeatedly kept off the court by bad weather. With only two official matches under the belts, the team is undefeated with victories over Sidwell and Gonzaga. In the meantime, the 2023 championship-winning squad has been working hard at honing their fundamentals and coming together as a team. Coach Najdi has high hopes for his squad and looks forward to sunnier skies.
Track:
The track and field team continues to roll along as they head into the heart of our competitive season. This past weekend, the team competed against 35 other schools at the Legard Relays in Fairfax, VA. One highlight was a 1st-place finish for our distance medley relay of William Strong ’25, Christian Cherilus ’25, Liam Quinn ’25, and Sebi Hume ’25. Overall, the Bulldogs finished in 7th place and were the top private school.
