What other day can you expect to see a pair of Squidwards wobbling their way down the hall, “Taco Belle” running across the Little Field, or the Addams family members leading a class discussion? The answer is (hopefully) never; and it’s just one of the things that makes the week of Halloween at St. Albans special. Starting this morning, lower school students donned their costumes, some individual and some as a group, and headed to the Little Field for their Halloween Parade and Contest. Themes ranged from sports players - hockey, baseball, lacrosse, basketball, to puns - to St. Albans-centric themes like “free dress days” and the Parrot Library. Parents hung out in the crowd, admiring the crafts and creativity and trying to avoid bumping into inflatable Spongebobs and full-size crew boats.
The Upper school students wore their costumes throughout the day, giving passersby on the Close a nice view of a few cows and clowns making their way to 4th period. Several notable figures stopped by to enter themselves in the US costume contest including painter Bob Ross, musician Slash, along with some less expected characters like “brain rot” and a singular Ninja Turtle making an appearance. In addition to the costumes, both Lower School and Upper School students participated in pumpkin carving and decorating competitions. Winning submissions ranged from bulldogs to football helmets. A fair share of candy and Halloween treats were also consumed in the holiday spirit, of course.
