Under Construction: STA Classes Visit Little Sanctuary Site
The renovation and expansion of the Little Sanctuary has provided a great learning opportunity for STA students to see their class subjects in action. This week, students had the opportunity to enter the construction site of the chapel and learn about the extensive work being done every day. Representatives from Coakley & Williams Construction met with classes to discuss the physics, logistics, and technology it takes to undertake a complicated construction project.
Theater Technical Director Mr. Greg Lampasona's Stagecraft students were able to make connections to what they had built in class, while learning more about topics ranging from pouring concrete to dealing with the natural elements. Physics students from science teacher Mr. Bryan Taylor's classes also toured the site. The Coakley & Williams team members explained the physics behind making a historical building structurally sound, from drilling mini pylons and temporary supports, to designing beams and braces that safely incorporate the newly crafted wooden arches in the Little Sanctuary's tower. The Lower School will have its chance to learn about the progress and work at the site tomorrow during assembly.
