Saints and Bulldogs Clash in the Battle of the Books
Like two well-read titans locked in a never-ending battle for literary supremacy, the Saints and Bulldogs returned to Trapier Theater for the Battle of the Books. The two teams of C, B, and A formers (divided alphabetically) rocked the house, not only with their half-time dance party, but with their chants and cheers for their classmates.
The Battle of the Books, which transforms summer reading into a lively and enjoyable and loud competition, gives Lower School students the opportunity to test their knowledge in a competition for the prize of bragging rights (and some candy). Lower School librarian Ms. Brostoff served as the event's official and planner, keeping order among the teams. Mr. Brockway captained the Saints in his signature angel attire complete with wings and halo, as Mr. Miller served as skipper for the Bulldogs, lab coat and bulldog mask on-hand.
As the competition began, the team captains took turns asking questions on the wide range of books and authors the students studied throughout the summer. The competition was intense, with a few close calls. But going into halftime, both teams stayed perfect and tied in score. The teams, showing amazing self-reliance, provided their own halftime entertainment in the form of a 30-second dance party DJ'ed by Mr. Miller.
After the battle resumed, the Saints and Bulldogs continued to trade perfect answers, denying the other team the chance to steal. The Saints' bibliographic knowledge was simply divine, and the Bulldogs continued to nip at their heels with every correct response. As time expired both teams remained perfect. As Mr. Brockway, Mr. Miller, and Ms. Brostoff conferred on the final score and decision, both teams waited with bated breath for the results. For the first time in recent memory, the Battle of the Books finished as a perfect tie. Both teams rushed to shake hands and embrace after a hard fought battle. Everyone was in high spirits as the teams exited together, satisfied in their knowledge and efforts.
The candy for winning didn't hurt either.
