Successful Fall Season Concludes

Another week, another trophy. As the fall season officially came to an end, the Bulldogs had one last victory to celebrate in the Refectory — a fitting way to cap off a tremendous start to the school year for St. Albans athletics.

Soccer Wins DCSAA Title, Completes Treble

Championship MVP William Eastright ‘26 made an incredible save to stop a bicycle kick shot from Gonzaga as time expired, securing the 1-0 DCSAA tournament victory for the Bulldogs and their third championship of the season. The treble is a sought after accolade in professional soccer, signifying three major trophies won in a season for a club. With their DCSAA title, soccer successfully completed their treble: IAC regular season champions, IAC postseason champions, and DC state champions. The championship-winning goal, scored by freshman Parker Leyden '27, left fans excited for the future of the Bulldogs — with more talent ready to step in to replace an incredibly successful senior class. 

All-IAC selections William Eastright ‘26, Chris Bates ‘25, Max Nelsen ‘26, XiXi Espinoza ‘26, and Tom Brady ‘25 will return next year for the Bulldogs. All-IAC selection Gael Waizenegger ‘24, as well as IAC Co-Players of the Year Charlie Irwin ‘24 and Jack Sabel ‘24 are graduating alongside an esteemed senior class who brought home multiple championships to the Close.

Future Looking Bright for Football

There are encouraging signs ahead for the gridiron Bulldogs. The season featured notable wins against Jackson-Reed, John Paul the Great, Bullis and St. Stephens. Quarterback Myles Upchurch ‘25 and his primary target, offensive standout Zahir Cobb ‘26 were All-IAC selections and should power the offense next season. On the other side of the ball, Kenny Dilanian ‘25 was recognized as an All-IAC player for his defensive dominance.

The team will look to replace All-IAC selections Jacob Hur ‘24, Wesley Solomon ‘24, Thomas Stein ‘24, and Jack Zamer ‘24 — as well as their incredible senior teammates — when they return next season. There should be plenty of competition for those spots in the starting 11, as the hungry JV squad put together an impressive 6-3 season and brought home the JV IAC title. 

ICYMI: Cross-Country Finishes Year as IAC Champions, DCSAA Runners-Up

Sebi Hume, William Strong, Laszlo Wolfe, Charlie Palmore, Rafi Hume, and Declan Hamilton received All-IAC honors. Sebi Hume and William Strong were IAC co-champions. S. Hume, Strong, Wolfe, and Palmore received All-State accolades.

As Seen in Last Week’s Bulldog News: At Kenilworth Park on Saturday the cross-country team fell just short of winning consecutive DCSAA titles. Sebi Hume ’25 crossed the finish line first to take the overall individual title and Will Strong ’25 finished third. From the perspective of average time, it was a virtual tie. St. Albans finished with an average time of 16:34.61 to Gonzaga’s 16:34.52. Congratulations to Coach Ehrenhaft ’83 and the cross-country team on another tremendous year!
