Weekly Recap: XC Season Ends With Strong Showing

Add another IAC trophy to the fall collection! With soccer defeating Landon, two out of three fall sports teams won the conference title this year. Read on to find out how it happened.

Cross-Country Finishes Year as IAC Champions, DCSAA Runners-Up
At Kenilworth Park on Saturday the cross-country team fell just short of winning consecutive DCSAA titles. Sebi Hume ’25 crossed the finish line first to take the overall individual title and Will Strong ’25 finished third. From the perspective of average time, it was a virtual tie. St. Albans finished with an average time of 16:34.61 to Gonzaga’s 16:34.52. Congratulations to Coach Ehrenhaft ’83 and the cross-country team on another tremendous year!

Football Looks to End Season with Win at Landon
The Bulldogs will take on the Bears on the road at Landon to wrap up their season in the 93rd edition of this timeless rivalry. Sitting at a 4-4 overall record and a 2-2 record in IAC play, a winning season is on the line. Last weekend, St. Albans honored and recognized the seniors on football before their matchup against Georgetown Prep.

Soccer Wins IAC Championship and Sets Sights on DCSAA Title
It was an outright championship three years in the making. After splitting the IAC regular season and tournament championships with Landon the past two seasons, the Bulldogs defeated the Bears 1-0 to put an exclamation point on their dominant 9-0-1 regular season. With STA controlling the majority of the game, a first half goal by Charlie Irwin ‘24 would be the difference maker. Goalkeeper William Eastright ‘26 made a pair of incredible second half saves to keep the tides of the game from turning. This week the team turns their attention toward the DCSAA state tournament, which they won in 2021. The quest began Wednesday with a quarterfinal victory against Maret on Steuart Field.
